Our Services

WHAT SARDOM PROVIDES

  • Highly-skilled German Shepherd Dogs and handlers, both of whom have many hours of search training consisting of wilderness, water, rubble, obedience, and agility work. Each dog/handler team trains for approximately one year before becoming operational.
  • Each handler qualified in First Aid, wilderness navigation, radio communications, search strategy and tactics, lost person behavior, and terrain analysis.
  • Base camp and support personnel trained in radio communications, search management, interview techniques, and map and compass.
  • Completely self-contained unit with base camp operations, communications system, and topgraphic maps for Maryland and surrounding states.
  • SARDOM can request additional dog/handler teams from other ARDA units.

SPECIAL APPLICATIONS

  • DISASTER WORK: SARDOM has Advanced Level FEMA certified canine teams available to respond to any natural or manmade disaster involving possible victims trapped under rubble and debris.
  • MASS TRANSPORATION ACCIDENTS: In situations such as downed aircrafts or train derailments and collisions, SARDOM can provide dogs trained to locate live or deceased victiims that may be located at the wreckage site or over a wide surrounding area.
  • WATER RECOVERY/DROWNINGS: SARDOM can provide specially trained canine teams as well as our own boat and driver.
  • EVIDENCE SEARCHES: SARDOM can provide specially trained canines that locate concealed articles or human evidence in a criminal context. Situation must not pose undue risk to the search team.

SARDOM is first and foremost a wilderness Search and Rescue unit. We strive to maintain operational wilderness dogs in a sufficient number so that we may respond immediately at any hour of the day to a wilderness search with at least 4 dog/handler teams.
