Volunteer Information

Volunteering for a search and rescue unit can be a rewarding experience, but it demands hard work, dedication, and a long-term commitment. No experience is required, but a volunteer should be physically fit and enjoy working outdoors and with dogs. The dogs used by SARDOM are German Shepherd Dogs, as specified by the American Rescue Dog Association's requirements, but do not have to be AKC-registered. Dogs should be as young as possible when training begins, since it takes as long as two years before a dog and handler become operational.
